Diogo Jota Confirmed Dead In A Car Accident

Liverpool player, Diogo Jota confirmed dead alongside his brother after their car caught fire in an accident.

Diogo Jota, a Portugal international, made over 180 appearances for Liverpool after playing for Wolves in the Premier League before joining the team in 2020.

During his time there, he won the Premier League, FA Cup, and Carabao Cup. At the age of 28, Liverpool forward Diogo Jota lost his life in a car accident in Spain.

The Guardia Civil in Zamora, where the accident occurred, confirmed Jota’s death to the public.

A statement from Zamora Provincial Council read: “Two young people died in an accident on the A-52 (Palacios de Sanabria). The Rionegro del Puente Fire Station (Northern Zone of the Consortium) responded. The vehicle caught fire, and the flames spread to the vegetation. They were 28 and 26 years old. RIP.”

What Happened To Diogo Jota?

The crash happened at kilometer 65 of the A-52, near Palacios de Sanabria. Jota was traveling with his brother on the A-52 through Cernadilla at night. According to preliminary findings reported, investigators believe the Lamborghini they were in experienced a tire blowout while attempting to overtake another vehicle around 12:30 a.m. on Wednesday local time (6:30 p.m. Tuesday ET).

As a result, the car veered off the road, causing a fatal crash. The vehicle caught fire, killing both Portuguese footballers.

Jota started his career in Portugal, at the Pacos de Ferreira academy, before joining Atlético Madrid in 2016. But he never played for the LaLiga club, instead going on loan to Porto, his hometown, and then Wolves, where he eventually signed a permanent deal in 2018.

He spent two years in the Midlands under fellow Portuguese Nuno Espírito Santo before signing with Liverpool in September 2020.

He most recently won the Premier League with Liverpool, adding to his previous FA Cup and Carabao Cup victories. Jota also came on as a substitute in Liverpool’s 1-0 Champions League final loss to Real Madrid in 2021/2022.

He made his Portugal debut in November 2019, and went on to compete in Euro 2022 and 2024. He was forced to withdraw from the 2022 World Cup due to an injury.
