University of Ghana Self-Placement Ghana, Nigeria Missing Out Of The Top 10 Universities In Africa

All University of Ghana admission applicants who missed admission can use the UG How to do University of Ghana Self-Placement module to gain admission into other programmes. The University of Ghana has introduced a self-placement system to allow qualified applicants who do not gain admission to select from available programs through the admissions portal.

Below are the steps for the self-placement process at the University of Ghana:

Check Admission Status:
First, check if you have received any admission notification from the University of Ghana. If you haven’t, proceed to the next step.

Login to the Admissions Portal:
Access the University of Ghana’s admissions portal with your login credentials (username and password used during application).

Review Available Programs:
Once logged in, look for a section or link related to “Self-Placement” or “Program Selection”. Here, you will find a list of programs for which you meet the qualification criteria.

Select a Suitable Program:
Browse through the available programs. Consider the requirements for each program, including the necessary WASSCE subjects and grades (at least credit passes in six subjects, with three core and three electives, and an aggregate score of 24 or better).

Choose a program that matches your academic qualifications and interests, keeping in mind the advice from Mrs. Nyako-Danquah about mental preparedness for the course.

Self-Place in the Chosen Program:
Select your preferred program from the list. There should be an option to confirm your choice or apply for self-placement into that program.

Confirmation:
After selecting your program, confirm your choice. You might receive a confirmation message or email notifying you of your successful self-placement.

Visit the Admissions Helpdesk if Needed:
If you encounter any issues or have questions, visit the admissions helpdesk at the UG Information Center near the main entrance. This service is set up to assist students with their queries during the admissions process.

Monitor Your Application:
Keep checking your email or the admissions portal for any further communications or instructions regarding your application, especially as the admissions process is expected to conclude by the end of January.

Prepare for Matriculation:
Once placed, prepare for the next steps towards matriculation, which will include orientation, registration, and other introductory activities for new students.

The University of Ghana has introduced a self-placement module into its 2024-2025 admission. This was revealed by Mrs. Lydia Anowa Nyako-Danquah, the director of the University of Ghana’s Academic Affairs Directorate.

The new addition to the admission processes of the university was made known to Campus Exclusive of Radio Universe in an interview published in a post sighted by Ghana Education News.

This means UG will indirectly have the GES-styled self-placement module for all applicants who met the requirements for admission into the university but were not placed in any of the programs they chose due to either the competitive nature of the admission or the better grades of other applicants, which pushed others out of the competition for admission.

“Mrs. Nyako-Danquah also addressed applicants who may not initially gain admission despite meeting the requirements. She explained that there will be an option for such candidates to self-place into available programs.”

The introduction of the University of Ghana Self-Placement admission module will ensure that more students gain admission into the premier university and under-subscribed programs that match the qualifications of such students are taken. This will further ensure that the university gives a second window of opportunity to its qualified applicants denied admission as a result of the competitive admission process.

The university is yet to disclose further details on how it intends to implement the newly introduced self-placement module within the admission system. Students must, however, be careful not to choose programs that do not align with their career ambitions all because they want to attend the University of Ghana.

The Ghana Education News portal hopes students will not make the wrong choices and later regret using the option. Lessons from the GES self-placement for JHS graduates making wrong program choices should guide students who use the University of Ghana Self-Placement module. Recently, the Ghana Education Service (GES) also introduced a similar system for the posting of teachers and it came with several challenges.

While speaking to Campus Exclusive, she furthered that the university would start releasing the first batch of admissions from 10th to 15th January, 2025.
