He drew a comparison to his own student days ago, noting that those who focused on biology, chemistry, and physics did not study general science.

Dr. Adutwum, who also serves as the Member of Parliament for Bosomtwe, believes that eliminating integrated science as a core subject for science students will provide them with the opportunity to concentrate on other subjects.

Because the science student has studied physics, chemistry, and biology and still goes ahead to study integrated science, he is not able to do French or Arts. So with the new arrangement, they can do French and arts also,” he said.

He further clarified that integrated science is intended for students who do not possess an extensive background in the sciences.

General science is for those who don’t study pure science. A pure science student has already studied biology, chemistry, and physics at an advanced level, so he doesn’t need it,” he added.

Dr. Adutwum also highlighted the potential benefits of science students studying French, as it could significantly enhance their opportunities to work in Francophone countries following their tertiary education.

In 2024, a new curriculum will be implemented for senior high schools in Ghana. One of the purpose of this new curriculum is to release some burdens from both teachers and students.
