Don’t recruit SHS teachers as 2021 WASSCE invigilators – WAEC told
The Management of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) following the impending 2021 WASSCE for School examination scheduled for August 2021 has been asked not to use SHS teachers as invigilators in the examination.
Don’t recruit SHS teachers as 2021 WASSCE invigilators request
Mr Kofi Asare who made the request in a post sighted by EducationWeb.com.gh said international best practice indicates teachers should not be used as invigilators in external exams due to the potentials for conflicting interests.
The Executive Director of Africa Education Watch proposal comes after some teachers who were employed as invigilators to ensure smooth conduct of the 2020 WASSCE engaged in misconduct and examination malpractices.
“Some invigilators played a role in the WASSCE 2020 malpractices. The international best practice provides that teachers should not be used as invigilators in external exams due to the potentials for conflicting interests,” he stated.
Mr Asare cited that “In Kade SHTS, a Mathematics teacher, Mr Evans Yeboah, was interdicted by the GES for taking a snapshot of the Integrated Science question paper and sending same outside for an accomplice to solve.”
The Education economist further urged the Ministry of Education and CID to prioritize criminal investigations and prosecution of suspected criminals in the exam irregularities value chain to make that business a risky one.
