Teachers Salary Wahala: From NDC’s “3 months salary arrears” to the worse NPP’s TeeNovaly
Teachers’ salaries have suffered severely in many aspects since the NPP took power. Teachers were made to believe that the NDC’s “three-month salary arrears” policy was terrible and that teachers would enjoy paradise under Nana Addo’s government.
Alas, the NPP introduced what we have nicknamed TeeNovaly at the Ghana Education News.
What is the NPP’s TeeNovaly?
TeeNovaly is a term that describes a troubling situation faced by teachers regarding their salaries. It refers to the phenomenon where teachers’ salaries are not paid or stop reflecting in their accounts due to various issues. One common scenario is when a teacher’s salary is not validated, meaning that it does not go through the necessary checks and processes to be paid. As a result, the salary does not appear in the teacher’s account until the validation issues are resolved.
Another situation occurs when a teacher’s salary is validated, but there are other unresolved issues associated with it. In such cases, the salary may stop being paid until these additional issues are addressed.
The term TeeNovaly is expected to gain prominence after the NPP government introduced policies that led to these salary payment challenges. These policies include the requirement for validation before salary payments and the suspension of salaries for teachers with unresolved issues.
Many teachers have experienced frustration and financial difficulties due to TeeNovaly, as they have been unable to receive their salaries despite their efforts. This situation has led to criticism of the NPP government for creating what some describe as “salary-starving demons” that affect teachers’ livelihoods.

More details about this worrying TeeNovaly
TeeNovaly came with its frustrations when the NPP introduced the infamous “No validation, salary stops until further notice” and “validate with issue to stop salary until further notice.”
Many teachers, through no fault of their own, have found themselves in the nets of these new salary-starving demons created under the NPP government.
Till now, teachers across the country have not been able to find a single word or phrase to describe this new salary-starving demon of the ruling NPP.
Currently, teachers who have been attacked by this no-validation-salary-stopping virus do not know exactly where to turn for swift solutions to this issue.
The issues have left teachers on their own.
If a teacher, for some reason, does not validate for one month, he or she must apply for salary activation. This in itself can take several months or forever to get activated. Until it is corrected, the teacher’s salary will not be paid to him or her.
Just in case a teacher is on a responsibility allowance and takes a transfer to another school where he or she is no longer on the responsibility allowance
He stands a serious chance of getting a headache if his or her salary is validated and the responsibility allowance is taken off. Under such a situation, the teacher’s salary will stop being paid into his or her account until a new application for reactivation of the salary is sent by the teacher and is approved.
It is hoped that this head-aching TeeNovaly, which was one of the issues that informed the two-week strike by the pre-tertiary education unions, will be resolved soon.

Note that TeeNovaly is a word we at Ghana Education News have coined for the situation, as explained above.
