Teachers Research Fund for Basic school teachers needed- ITN
An education Think-Tank, Informed Teachers Network (ITN) is advocating for the setting up of basic school teachers research fund.
(ITN) is a network of dedicated educators passionate about increasing their impact on education through acquiring and sharing education-related information through writings as well as engaging in advocacy.
It believes it is time for the government to set up the Teachers Research Fund a fund to support research undertaken by basic school teachers for the benefit of basic education in Ghana.
Since teachers have been trained to conduct at least one Action Research, the research training and the skills acquired by the basic school teacher needs to be put to good use.
Given the numerous challenges that confront our education at the basic school, such research may provide novel solutions.
“We didn’t acquire these skills for fun. We need funding to put it to use.” The Think-Tank argued in a post on its social media page sighted by Ghanaeducation.org.
The group added that basic school teachers have a lot to contribute to educational policies and reforms that affect them directly.
They called on key stakeholders, including the Ghana Education Service, Ministry of Education, and others not to reduce teachers to mere consumers.
“We shouldn’t just be reduced to consumers. Moreover, we research to get content every day to teach. That is not something we should be using our personal data for. We have an employer.” the post calling for the setting up of the basic school teachers research fund added.
Establishing a fund “Ghana Teachers Research Fund” would go a long way to help sponsor relevant and important research into education-related issues to help address the many challenges confronting basic education in the country.
Research plays a critical role in helping add to knowledge, providing solutions for dealing with problems among others. It is therefore imperative that the GES, MoE, take a critical look at it in the next four years should Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum rises to the post of the Minister of Education.
