Three teachers, Samuel Mensah Amelikpo, David Bacha Ntenyam, and Daniel Ofori Boateng, have been arrested over their involvement in GES employment scam totaling GH¢394,500.
The three appeared before an Accra Circuit Court where they were each granted bail in the amount of GH¢350,000. Additionally, they are required to provide two sureties each, who must be either from the Ghana Education Service teaching profession or family members. As a condition of their bail, they must report to the police every Wednesday. The case has been adjourned until April 30, 2024.
The accused teachers are alleged to have conspired to defraud 42 individuals by promising them employment within the Ghana Education Service in exchange for monetary payments. The complainant, Sumaila Awueidze, who resides in Kukurantumi, Eastern Region, was convinced by Amelikpo’s assurances that he had the means to secure employment opportunities within the GES. Consequently, the complainant organized 42 applicants who were interested in the purported job placements.

On August 29, 2023, Amelikpo collected GH¢394,000.00 from the complainants under the guise of facilitating their employment, but he subsequently failed to fulfill his promise and went into hiding. Despite efforts to contact Amelikpo, the complainant was unsuccessful, leading to the involvement of law enforcement. Amelikpo was eventually apprehended on October 18, 2023, in Odorgonno, Accra. During interrogation, he admitted to collecting the money but failing to deliver on his promise. He also implicated Bacha and Boateng as his accomplices, leading to their subsequent arrest on November 10, 2023, in Asamankese and Asante Effiduase, respectively.
During the investigation, Bacha admitted to receiving GH¢388,000.00 from Amelikpo, which he handed over to Boateng and another individual named Reuben Bempoh for recruitment purposes. Boateng, on the other hand, confessed to receiving money from both Amelikpo and Bacha, which he deposited into Vodafone Cash wallet accounts provided by Bempoh, whom he had met online and who claimed to work at the GES National Headquarters in Accra. The police were able to recover GH¢70,000.00 from Boateng, which was subsequently returned to the complainant.
The police investigation into the matter is ongoing, as they continue to gather evidence and information related to the employment scam.
