Two couples make history as they are called to the Ghana Bar on the same day: The General Legal Council (GLC) has enrolled over 1,000 new lawyers to the Ghana Bar at its 60th ceremony held at the Accra International Conference Centre on October 20, 2023.
The new lawyers have passed the professional law examination organized by the Ghana School of Law and are certified to practice law in the country.

Among the new lawyers, there were two remarkable couples who made history as they were called to the Bar on the same day.
They are Curtis Quarcoo and Dedo Ruth Sarah Mate, and Ross Osei Owusu and Sylvia Mamle Assem.
Curtis Quarcoo and Dedo Ruth Sarah Mate are both alumni of the Presbyterian Boys’ Senior High School (PRESEC), Legon and the University of Ghana.

They used to work together at the First Love Centre, a church founded by Bishop Dag Heward-Mills. They got married in 2020 and pursued their law degrees together.
Ross Osei Owusu and Sylvia Mamle Assem are also a married couple who studied law together.
They are both graduates of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).

They tied the knot in 2021 and enrolled in the Ghana School of Law.
The two couples have received congratulatory messages from their families, friends, and colleagues on social media.
They have also been featured on various news platforms as examples of love and dedication.
According to The Law Platform, a Twitter account that covers legal issues, this is the first time that two couples have been enrolled together at the same time while in holy and blissful matrimony.
The GLC has also recognized other outstanding achievements at the ceremony, such as the Chief Justice, Justice Gertrude Torkornoo, presenting a law certificate to her own daughter Torkonoo Selasi Esi Trudy.
The GLC has urged the new lawyers to uphold the ethics and standards of the legal profession and to serve the nation with integrity and excellence.
