Institutions Urged to Use IVSP for Authentic Ghana Card Verification. This was contained in a press release by the National Identification Authority (NIA).

The NIA revealed that it was worried by the actions of some institutions, including banks, which relied solely on physical (ocular) inspection and photocopying of Ghana Cards and not the official Identity Verification System Platform (NIA IVSP).  The authority has directed that such institutions rely on NIA IVSP if they want to verify clients.

Organizations are to contact the NIA to be assisted to enrol for the NIA IVSP.

The National Identification Authority (NIA) has noted with concern the increasing practice by some institutions, including banks, corporate bodies, government agencies, and other financial service providers, of relying solely on physical (ocular) inspection and photocopying of Ghana Cards instead of using the official Identity Verification System Platform (NIA IVSP).

This practice poses significant risks and has contributed to the unfortunate circulation and use of fake Ghana Cards by unscrupulous individuals.

The NIA wishes to remind all institutions that physical inspection or photocopying alone is not a secure or sufficient means of verifying the authenticity of the Ghana Card. Institutions are therefore strongly cautioned to desist from this practice and are urged to onboard onto the NIA IVSP as the only approved and secure method for real-time identity verification.

To enroll in the NIA IVSP, institutions are advised to contact the NIA directly via idverification@nia.gov.gh to initiate the onboarding process. This will enable institutions to carry out instant, reliable verification and help safeguard the integrity of the Ghana Card as the single source of truth for identification in Ghana.

The NIA further cautions that any institution found compromising the integrity of the Ghana Card verification process does so entirely at its own risk, as such actions may result in identity theft, financial loss, and reputational damage, for which the NIA bears no responsibility and will not be held liable under any circumstances.
