Prison inmates! They went to prison. No, I sent them to prison rather.
Monday, last week, we read a passage in the English reading book titled Prisons and Prisoners. It enlightened us about why prisons exist, who goes there, when and how.
On Tuesday, I saw a post by THE CHURCH OF PENTECOST about the new infrastructure they built at the Nsawam Camp Prison.
I showed them the pictures on my laptop. As I slid through the pictures, they kept asking “wow, you mean this is a prison? See tiles, see football park, hurrrr”
When they saw the computer lab, workshop center, tailoring shops, etc, in one voice, they all said they wanted to go there. I was like unless during an excuse but Kelvin said no.
That they will steal my laptop so I sent them there. I tried harder to convince them and they won’t listen complaining that even a prison is 100% better than our school. I even called Sir Philip to help me convince them but these little humans won’t understand.
Yoo, they kept saying it all day so I just had to find a way of removing that foolish thinking from their heads especially these ones in the pictures.
I set a trap. Simply, they were caught. They came to class 1 minute after break over. I sat on their case and found them guilty.
Their punishment was to go to an internal prison with HARD LABOUR. They filled the barrels with water during break.
Afterwards, they came back saying “sir, prison no, wɔnfa wɔn adze. Yɛn kɔ biom”.(Sir, the prison, we won’t go again. They should take it).
(In the picture; Kelvin from left, Prosper next, Kingsford the small boy danger and Evans carrying the basin).
Stubborn children, stubborn teacher.
ABOUT: Nsawam Medium Security Prisons
Nsawam Medium Security Prisons which was built to hold a total of 850 prisoners, is currently holding 3,187 prisoners, representing over 275% above the required capacity.
Being aware of this reality, THE CHURCH OF PENTECOST took the initiative to partner the Ghana Prisons Service to decongest Ghanaian prisons and provide better living conditions for prison inmates.
The Prison Reformation Centre is a direct response to the Bible’s admonishing in Hebrews 13:3 which states: “continue to remember those in prison, as if you were together with them in prison, and those who are mistreated, as if you yourselves were suffering.”
