Did you know that you can make your chickens lay more eggs naturally without the use of any orthodox medicines on them? It is always a joy to every poultry farmer to see his/her chickens lay eggs daily. But to have this happen, a farmer you will have to put in effort as nothing good comes easy.

Below are some creative ways to make your chickens lay more eggs.

1. Choose The Right Breed

For me it all starts with picking the right breed. As a farmer if you want your hens to lay eggs in plenty, you have to buy breeds that are proven layers. There are breeds that can approximately lay 5 eggs per week. Excellent layer breeds include Golden Comets, Black Stars, Leghorns, Barred Rocks etc.

2. Provide Quality Feeds

Nutrition is almost as important as the breed when it comes to making your chickens lay many eggs. Trying to buy substandard breeds in the name of reducing costs will only serve to inhibit egg production amongst your layers. Hens need a diet that is high in protein. Besides, include mealworms, eggshells, greens, watermelon, sunflower seeds and scratch grains in their diet.

3. Control Stress

Yes even chickens get stressed just like human beings. What may stress them to the bone, though differs from human beings. A sudden change in feeding, too much noise, squirrel and other tiny animal runs are the main issues that stress out birds. Hens by nature are considered prey hence why they are very conscious. Stress from predators can make them not to lay eggs for days. Even unfamiliar human beings in their vicinity gets the chickens upset. As a Famer you should know that hens thrive on routine. If this is broken, their egg laying pattern is disrupted.

4. Avoid Broody Hens

Broody hens are the type of hens that have tendencies of sitting on their eggs in an attempt to hatch them. Now the problem here is, these types of hens don’t lay eggs for the time they brood. Add to the fact that when they hatch, they will not lay eggs again for a foreseeable period because they will look at their young ones. To avoid such scenarios, do not go for breeds such as Chentecler, Cochin, Sussex or Brahma which are known brooders
