All Qualified BECE Candidates Will Be Placed; Freshers to Report on 18th September 2026—GES

GES Bans Three Senior High Schools Over Sports Hooliganism

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has moved swiftly to dismiss public anxiety regarding the placement of Junior High School graduates, categorically denying media reports that tens of thousands of candidates are at risk of missing out on Senior High School (SHS) and Technical School admissions.

In an official statement released from the Ministry Branch Post Office in Accra, the GES addressed a “speculative” report suggesting that roughly 72,000 students might not secure placements this academic year. Management described these claims as a distortion of the current reality, urging parents, students, and the general public to disregard the misinformation entirely.

Speaking on behalf of the Service, Daniel Fenyi, the Head of Public Relations, emphasized that the government has completed extensive preparations to welcome every qualified Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) candidate. He voiced a strong reassurance to the newest cohort of graduates, stating that the Service is fully prepared for their transition into the next stage of their academic journey.

“Management assures all graduates that comprehensive preparations and arrangements have been made to receive all freshers into Senior High and Technical Schools across the country,” Fenyi noted. He further clarified the timeline for the academic transition, confirming that the official reporting date for all first-year students is set for 18th September 2026.

The statement also addressed ongoing structural changes within the Ghanaian education system, specifically the transition away from the double-track calendar. The GES maintained that the phasing out of this system is designed to enhance the quality of teaching and learning rather than limit availability. According to the Service, there is currently adequate infrastructure and specialized facilities in place to accommodate every qualified student without compromise.

As the 2026 academic year approaches, the GES reiterated its commitment to maintaining a system that is equitable and inclusive. Mr. Fenyi called upon all national stakeholders to support the objective of providing quality education for every Ghanaian child, ensuring that no student is left behind in the placement process.
