Hon. Xavi Sosu, MP for Madina updates parliament on gang-defilement of 13-year-old girl.
Parliament demands justice, arrest of remaining suspects and police investigation.
The disturbing news of a young girl allegedly gang-defiled by multiple men in the Madina Constituency has been raised on the floor of Parliament.
The story, first reported by Human Rights Reporters Ghana (HRRG) and the Justice Revived Foundation (JRF) on July 14, 2025, has been described as deeply worrying and has sparked outrage across the nation.
MP Francis-Xavier Sosu Addresses Parliament
Bringing the issue before the house, the Member of Parliament for the Madina constituency, Hon. Francis-Xavier Sosu, a human rights lawyer, confirmed the incident occurred within his constituency.
“Mr. Speaker, my attention has been drawn to the alleged defilement of a young girl who had been gang-raped by multiple men, leaving her traumatized and pregnant,” Hon. Francis-Xavier Sosu stated.
He further revealed that his checks with the Madina Divisional Police DOVVSU commander confirmed the following facts:
- The victim is rather a 14-year-old girl and not 13 as per the reports.
- She lives in Madina with her parents.
- Her parents discovered she was pregnant.
- Upon questioning, she revealed to her parents that she had had sexual encounters with 18 men on different occasions.
- The Madina DOVVSU has obtained a formal complain statement from the victim’s parents.
- The victim’s statement has also been taken, and a police medical report form has been issued to the family for the victim’s examination.
- Two suspects have been arrested, cautioned, and detained to assist with police investigations.
- Intensified efforts are underway to apprehend the remaining suspects in the defilement case.
Legal and Psychological Support Mobilized for Victim
As part of his efforts to support the rights of children, Hon. Sosu disclosed that he and other lawyers have decided to offer their services to hold a criminal watching brief on behalf of the victim.
He added that the statement was crucial “since it was about a minor defiled by 18 people. This issue cannot be allowed to be swept away,” Hon. Sosu stated. Furthermore, the Medical Director of Pantang Hospital has been contacted to provide the necessary psychological support for the victim.
