The latest update on the Turkey-Syria earthquake shows that the Turkey-Syria earthquake has claimed at least 1,400 lives. A 2nd major quake hit after the first one.
The second quake measured a magnitude of 7.5 after the devastating 7.8 earthquakes in southeast Turkey. The second quake has also caused damage in northern Syria and compounded the humanitarian crisis. At least 912 deaths were reported in Turkey, while 582 people died in Syria.
China has disclosed its willingness to provide humanitarian emergency aid and services needed in the earthquake-struck Turkey and Syria. The Chinese government has also sent its heartfelt condolence for the loss of life and property and is in communications with both Turkey and Syria. The Chine government is expected to use its China International Development Cooperation Agency to provide the needed support in these hard times.
Other countries including Iran, the EU, Israel, India, Russia, Qatar, and Ukraine have also pledged aid in the wake on Monday.
Following the two earthquakes that crossed 7.5 magnitudes, the airport in the southern Turkish province of Adana was closed for flights until further notice. This follows the major earthquakes. It is part of efforts to safeguard lives and reduce panic flights.
No further details were immediately available. Airports in Gaziantep and Hatay were also previously closed.
In Syria, the state media reported that at least 371 people were killed and 1089 were injured in government-controlled areas. The death toll in Syria’s opposition-held northwest also rose to 211 and 419 others were injured, the White Helmets rescue team said in a tweet.
