WAEC is 90% ready for 2024 BECE

WAEC is 90% ready for 2024 BECE; the examination will be organized for all candidates, whether rain or shine.

The Public Relations Officer of WAEC, Mr. John Kapi, has disclosed that WAEC is 90% ready to carry out the 2024 BECE for all final-year students in junior high school.

The Council has been in the news over the government’s delay in releasing funds for the examination. The government of Ghana has taken over the cost of the examination for all public school candidates since 2017. Its failure to proactively honour its financial obligation to WAC will create a challenge and lead to the postponement of the exam, which could also affect the academic calendar.

According to WAEC, while it is 90% ready to carry out the 2024 BECE, it is also processing payments from the government to its outfit with respect to this year’s BECE, scheduled for July 8–15, 2024.

He added that he was confident that this year’s BECE would be conducted as planned by the examining council.

WAEC needs the government to settle the over GHS90 million that covers the exam fees for 2024 public school candidates to be able to conduct the examination.

WAEC is expecting the government to settle the pending GH¢95.83 million so that it can finance its examination-related expenses on time to ensure that the exams scheduled to start from Monday, July 8, to July 15 are not impacted.

Mr. John Kapi further called on the general public not to be worried about pronouncements that the current financial issues might lead to the cancellation of the 2024 BECE. “We have completed the preparations… We can indeed do it. The printing and stationery are all ready.” He added.
