2022 Graduate Teachers Recruitment Date Disclosed By Education Minister

The Ministry of Education (MoE) mid-January or late February this year is expected to be given financial clearance for the Ghana Education Service (GES) to recruit graduates teachers, a staff of the Ministry has told EducationWeb.com.gh.

The MoE official Saturday said the Management of the Ghana Education Service (GES) will only consider graduate teachers who have completed national service and passed the teacher licensure examination for the 2022 recruitment.

“We last year petitioned the Ministry of Finance to increase the clearance for graduate teachers to be recruited in 2021 but it was agreed for only 16,850 newly trained teachers to be recruited and the graduates later this year,” he stated.

The Education Ministry staff furthered that “MoE is hoping mid-January or late February this year, the Finance Ministry gives financial clearance for graduates to be employed by the Ghana Education Service to support Free SHS/TVET.”

Asked if his outfit is considering E-deployment as indicated by the Minister for Education, Dr Yaw Adutwum, the MoE staff said plans are underway for a placement system to be created for new teachers to select areas to be posted to.

“It is something we are working on, the E-deployment as described by the Education Minister will give new teachers to be recruited the opportunity to select rural areas to be posted with incentives and other juicy packages,” he added.

The Ministry official following the impending recruitment has advised graduates seeking to be employed to pay attention to job announcements put out by his outfit in terms of what criteria the recruitment financial clearance is.

“The Ministry of Education and Ghana Education Service usually announce the recruitment teachers on our various social media handles, I will urge those seeking to be recruited this year to pay attention to such adverts,” he added.

Meanwhile, the Minister for Education, Hon Adutwum has said his outfit at the appropriate time will consult universities offering distance, diploma and degree in basic education to reduce the intake of teachers in their institution.

The Teaching Minister in an interview with an Accra-based FM station said the huge number of teachers admitted to pursue such programmes in universities are the major cause of teachers unemployment in the country.

“Only Colleges of Education graduates are mandated to be recruited by the Ghana Education Service but now the problem is universities are producing more graduate teachers making it difficult for them to be recruited,” he noted.

He however said the central government is doing all it can to ensure the majority of the graduate teachers from Colleges of Education and other universities are recruited into service to help the free Senior High School policy.

The Bosomtwe Member of Parliament further disclosed Ghana is in talks with the Education Minister for the United Kingdom for some Ghanaian teachers, particularly Science teachers to be exported to the UK to teach.

“The last time I met with the United Kingdom (UK) Minister for Education, he requested for us to provide them with unemployed Science teachers and it is something we are working on as a Ministry of Education,” Hon Yaw Osei said.
