2023 School Selection: Category ‘A’ Girls Schools In Greater Accra Region

Out of the over 51 Senior High Schools in the Greater Accra region, only seven are category A schools. This makes it the second region in Ghana with the most category ‘A’ schools (behind Eastern region who currently has 9). There are however two(2) category ‘A’ Girls senior high schools in the Greater Accra region. Let’s take a look at these schools;

1. Accra Girls’ Senior High School
Another Category A School in region is Accra Girls’ Senior High School commonly known as AGISS is an all-female second cycle institution in the Greater Accra Region of Ghana. It is among the two Girls’ school in the region to be in this category.
The school commenced on the 30th September, 1960 under the headship of Miss Blanch Gibson, an expatriate.
In a months time, the school which began with an initial twelve (12) students had increased to forty-two (42) and eventually seventy-five (75) and five (5) teachers namely Miss Lena Beale, Miss Mercer, Mrs. Paulina Buckman, Mrs. Irene Darkwah and Mrs. Blanche Gibson.
It operates as a non-denominational day and boarding school
The school’s motto “Aim High” advices that the sky should be the limit for students in their academic pursuit and never to pave way for mediocrity or complacency.
2. St. Mary’s Senior High School
St Mary’s Senior High School is an all-female second-cycle institution in Korle Gonno in the Greater Accra Region of Ghana. It is one of the best Girls’ Senior School in Ghana.
St. Mary’s Senior High School was established on 6 February 1950 by the Catholic missionary sisters known as Sister Servants of the Holy Spirit (SSPS).The school started with ten girls and a staff of two (2) Reverend sisters namely: the late Reverend Sisters, Jane and Rosette
