2024 BECE and WASSCE not entirely FREE for public schools

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has announced the official dates for the conduct of the 2024 BECE and WASSCE; however, the exam is not entirely free for public school candidates.
Why are the 2024 BECE and WASSCE exams not entirely free for public school candidates?
The government will pay the examination fees charged by WAEC for all students writing both examinations in public basic and senior high schools, but parents whose wards attend public schools will still make some financial commitments towards the examination.
However, parents will be responsible for covering additional costs for data collection, management, storage, transfer, and other related expenses not included in the WAEC exam fee.
Parents whose wards will be taking the same examination from private basic and secondary schools will have to pay the full cost of the examinations to WAEC, in addition to the extra costs related to data collection, management, storage, transfer, and other related expenses not covered by the WAEC exam fee.
Parents are to ensure the biodata provided to the schools is accurate and that the information is captured as they send it to avoid errors in the names, dates of birth, etc. before the schools transfer them to WAEC for processing for the examination.

Per the letter released by the GES, the 2024 BECE is scheduled to be administered by WAEC from Monday, July 8–12, 2024 for BECE (SC).
However, the 2024 WASSCE for School Candidates will be held from July 1–August 31, 2024.
What this means is that WASSCE candidates will start with their practicals on July 1st, and while they are carrying out their practicals, the junior high schools will start their main examination one week into the WASSCE practicals. When the BECE candidates complete their exam on July 12th, WASSCE students will commence their main subject-based examinations until August 31st, 2024.
GES indicated that the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) will provide detailed information regarding the registration of candidates for the examinations to the heads of the schools in the coming weeks.
Regional Directors of Education were instructed to disseminate this vital information to the Metro/District/Municipal Directors of Education for onward communication to all heads of basic and senior high schools.
