2024 NSMQ winner Mfantsipim School becomes first SHS to qualify for 2025 NSMQ final
Mfantsipim School, the reigning champions of the National Science and Maths Quiz, has become the first Senior High School (SHS) to qualify for the grand finale stage of the ongoing 2025 edition of the National Science and Mathematics Quiz (NSMQ) at Cape Coast.
In a social media post sighted by GhanaEducation.org, the organisers of the NSMQ congratulated Mfantsipim School, saying “Mfantsipim School secured the first Grand finale spot!”
Mfantsipim School was featured in the first contest of the National Science and Mathematics Quiz semi-finals, competing with Mankranso Senior High School and Ghana Secondary Technical School.
With 42 points, they secured a landslide victory against Ghana Secondary Technical School (GSTS) and Mankranso SHS, who scored 23 and 15 points respectively in the first semi-final contest.
The Botwe boys took a yawning lead with 17 points at the end of the first round, with Ghana Secondary Technical School and Mankranso SHS finishing the round with seven and six points, respectively.
The second round ended with all three schools showing very little agility and accuracy as Mankranso SHS earned one point, GSTS earned five points, and Mfantsipim School, a single point in the speed race.
The “problem of the day” proved a real problem when Mfantsipim School and Ghana Secondary Technical School (GSTS) ended the third round with one point each, and Mankranso scored zero.
The reigning champions, however, geared up in the fourth round to extend their lead, securing 32 points and leaving Ghana Secondary Technical School and Mankranso SHS behind with 20 and 15 points, respectively.
The Botwe boys justified their reign emphatically after correctly answering three out of four riddles in the final round, securing them a slot at the grand finale and a glorious opportunity to defend their title.
As the first school to secure a spot in the final stage, Mfantsipim School awaits the other two Senior High Schools that will emerge as winners from Contest 2 and Contest 3, scheduled for November 3, 2025.
Contest 2 of the semi-final stage of the National Science and Mathematics Quiz (NSMQ) will feature Amaniampong Senior High School, Pope John Senior High School and St. Augustine’s College.
Contest 3 of the semi-final stage of the National Science and Mathematics Quiz (NSMQ) will feature St. Peter’s Senior High School, Opoku Ware School and Achimota School.
