2025 BECE School Selection Guidelines and Date Released

The Ministry of Education (MoE), TVET, and the Ministry of Education have released the 2025 BECE School Selection Guidelines for schools, parents, teachers, and candidates preparing for the 2025 examination. The guidelines were released on 27th May, 2025.
According to the latest update, private schools will not be part of the school placement system under the Free SHS until next year.
The school selection will start on 27th June 2025.
All candidates who wish to enter Senior High Schools, Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions, or Training Centres will require the support of parents and schools to make their school choices.
Per the new guidelines:
- BECE candidates, with the help of their parents and teachers, will select a total of 7 schools: 5 schools in the main school selection, plus two additional schools.
- The first five schools must be arranged in their order of preference and can be chosen from Categories A, B, and C.
- Candidates cannot choose more than one school from Category A. However, it is not compulsory to choose your first school from Category A.
- A candidate cannot choose more than 2 schools from Categories B and C.
- Candidates must choose their two alternative schools from Appendix 3. The candidates will be placed in one of the alternative schools if they miss the chance of getting placed in one of the first five schools chosen.
- The selected schools must also come along with the accommodation type and programmes of preference.
- Schools with space for enrolment after placements will be made available on the CSSPS portal for candidates to choose under the self-placement module.
