2025 BECE Starts Today: Subjects, Topics, Timetable, Revised Exam Rules

The 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) starts today across the nation. In all a total of 603,328 made up of  Males: 297,250 and Females: 306,078 will sit the exam from today June 11th to June 18, 2025. In all, 20,395 schools will be taking part in the examination. The 2025 BECE will be the second to be administered to schools candidates since the Common Core Curriculum was implemented in 2019.

Subjects to be adminsitered on day 1 and Timetable as 2025 BECE Starts Today

The first two subjects to be administered by WAEC on day one of the examination are Social Studies and Computing. WAEC will organize two sets of examinations through out the exa period. One for all School Candidates & some Private Candidates using the Core curriculum (Common Core) and another set of questions for other Private Candidates based on the Old syllabus.

⚖️ Revised Examination Rules (Effective since 2023):

WAEC has revised the exam rules however, the following are a set of the key rule all candidates and officers of WAEC must obey. The new infractions include:

  1. Inscriptions on body or clothing

  2. Posting live questions online

  3. Refusing access to school premises

  4. Misconduct by examination officials

  5. Multiple registrations in public & private schools. These rules are available on the WAEC website.

The Council has called on all and sundry especially stakeholders to ensure that sanity prevails at all the examination centres. It also wished all the candidates success in their examination, and further dmonished them to adhere strictly to the rules governing the examination. Any attempt to breach any of these will have dire consequences on the candidates. WAEC added.

 

Based on the Common Core Programme (CCP) curriculum introduced by NaCCA and the current trends in the WAEC BECE structure, here are 10 likely topics WAEC may test candidates on in Social Studies and Computing for the 2025 BECE:

SOCIAL STUDIES (Likely Topics – 2025 BECE)

  1. Responsible Citizenship and National Identity

    • National symbols and values

    • Duties and responsibilities of a citizen

  2. Environmental Degradation and Protection

    • Causes and effects of land and water pollution

    • Strategies for environmental sustainability

  3. Adolescent Reproductive Health

    • Changes during adolescence

    • Preventing teenage pregnancy and STIs

  4. Peace and Conflict Resolution

    • Types, causes, and effects of conflict

    • Peacebuilding strategies in communities

  5. Population Growth and Development

    • Population census, growth rate, and its impact on resources

  6. Civic and Human Rights Education

    • Fundamental human rights

    • Rule of law and justice

  7. Globalisation and Cultural Change
