2025 First Series Private WASSCE registration extended for Ghana and Nigeria
The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has extended the closing date for the 2025 First Series Private WASSCE registration for Ghana and Nigeria.
While applicants in Nigeria have had their end of registration moved from 6th January to 20th January, 2025, that of Ghana has been extended from 8th January 2025 to 15th January 2025. Students in Ghana are to complete the full registration process not later than 11:59 pm on 15th January, 2025, to be eligible for the examination.
Earlier, the registration for students in Ghana was extended from 31st December 2024 to 8th January following the delay in the release of the 2024 WASSCE for school candidates’ results.
WAEC Nigeria and WAEC Ghana announced the extension via their respective official X accounts. The message from Nigeria WAEC read, “WASSCE FOR PRIVATE CANDIDATES, 2025-FIRST SERIES: EXTENSION OF REGISTRATION PERIOD. This is to inform intending candidates for the above exam that registration initially set to close on Monday, January 6, 2025, has been extended to Monday, January 20, 2025.” That of Ghana was mainly posted via an image from WAEC.
WAEC has, however, not announced a change in the date for the start of the examination. The 2025 First Series Private WASSCE is novel in Ghana since this is the first time in the history of WAEC Ghana that the examination will be held twice a year in Ghana and the first time in January. The examination starts on 24th January, 2025 and ends on 15th February 2025
This means that WAEC will organise WASSCE three times a year, effective 2025. This breaks down further into two private WASSCEs in January and November and the school WASSCE in July/August 2025.

WAEC has already released the timetable and examination dates for the 2025 First Series Private WASSCE. The examination starts on 24th January and ends on 15th February 2025. The 2025 First Series will be held in WAEC-managed examination centres, and the registration is mainly done in or close to WAEC regional and national offices, while the Second Series to be held in November/December will have remedial schools registering their candidates and multiple examination centres across the country being deployed for the examination.
