2025 School Self-Placement: Over 107,000 BECE Graduates Miss Automatic School Placement

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has released that over 107,000 BECE graduates will have to do school self-placement on the CSSPS portal.
The school placements for the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) candidates released showed that over 107,000 graduates missed out on automatic placement into their chosen Senior High Schools, Senior High Technical Schools, and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions.
What this means is that these students passed the BECE but were not placed in any school because of the competitive nature of the race scores of other candidates who chose the same schools, programmes, accommodations, among other things. The actual number of students to use the placement module is 107,509.
The Ghana Education News Portal and the BECEPREP Portal projected this was going to happen with data several weeks ahead of the news.
The placement data, which went live on Wednesday, September 17th, 2025, at 8:00 PM, revealed that out of 603,328 candidates who sat for the examination, a total of 590,309 qualified for placement.
According to key statistics released by the GES, 483,800 students, representing 82% of those who qualified, were successfully placed automatically into one of their selected schools. This cohort includes 248,038 girls (51.4%) and 234,783 boys (48.6%).
However, 107,509 students, making up the remaining 18%, could not be matched to their initial choices. These students are now required to utilise the self-placement module on the Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS) portal to select from available schools.
