The Ghana Education Service (GES) has released important updates regarding the 2026 BECE School Selection and the form for the process. The 2026 BECE result release date, the school selection schedule, and other essential procedures have been scheduled already. This information was contained in a press release issued on 6th July 2026, ahead of the release of results by WAEC.

According to the GES, stakeholders should expect the release of the BECE results on 15th July 2026. The school selection phase for the 2026 BECE will commence on 20th July 2026 and conclude on 7th August 2026. This means the school selection and submission phase will span 18 days.

“The nationwide training and sensitization exercise is scheduled for Wednesday, 15th July – Tuesday, 28th July, 2026. Please note that the BECE candidates will start selecting their schools from Monday, 20th July, to Friday, 7th August 2026,” the press release stated.

The Service, with the support of the Ministry of Education, will release guidelines and necessary documentation to educate all stakeholders on the process. Schools, teachers, and key stakeholders at both the school and Ministry of Education levels are expected to be trained on the new online school selection data-capturing system. This will help them offer effective service to parents and students, ensuring they are well-informed about how the new system operates.

According to the GES, “This training and sensitization exercise is intended to provide deeper insight into the selection guidelines and enable you to offer effective oversight throughout the exercise.”

The school selection form and the required number of school choices per category have been released. Parents and schools can download the form here ahead of the release of the school selection booklet. Below are the detailed guidelines for the 2026 school selection. All students will select 8 schools along with their preferred programs, accommodation, among others.

The 2026 BECE School Selection Form and Guidelines released by GES are below. They must be followed when selecting schools. The form is also available here for download.

Selection Guidelines

• Candidates must select eight (8) schools in total, comprising six (6) main choices and two (2) alternative choices.

• The six (6) main schools must be arranged in order of preference: the first choice must be the most preferred school, and the first Category A school should be the most preferred.

• The two (2) alternative schools will be selected from “Appendix 3” and will only be considered if the candidate is not placed in any of the six (6) main choices.

• Candidates must choose programmes according to the following: three (3) boarding schools and three (3) day schools.

• Candidates must select one day and one boarding school from Category B, and one day and one boarding school from Category C.

Important Notes

• A school selected by a candidate cannot be changed after submission.

• Candidates cannot select more than two (2) schools from Category A.

• Candidates cannot select more than two (2) schools from Category B.

• Candidates may select all six (6) schools from Category C (3 boarding and 3 day schools).

• Candidates wishing to offer purely TVET programmes must select all TVET institutions from Categories A, B, and C, using the selection criteria above.

• Candidates who wish to pursue career-oriented programmes such as Engineering, Medicine, Physical Sciences, Aviation, or Astronomy are encouraged to select STEM/Science programmes in all five (5) choices from Categories A, B, and C, as either day or boarding.
