Graphic Communications Group Ltd., publishers of the Junior Graphic, has officially launched the 2026 Junior Graphic Essay Competition. The launch took place at the Accra Mall during the awards ceremony for the top 10 national winners of the 2025 edition on 30th April, 2026.
Competition Details and Modalities
The 2026 edition marks the 15th year of the competition since its inception in 2011. Key details disclosed by the editor of the Junior Graphic, Mrs. Hannah A. Amoah, include the following:
- Start Date: The competition officially begins on Wednesday, May 6, 2026.
- Question Publication: Essay questions will be published starting from the May 6 edition of the Junior Graphic newspaper.
- Essay Topics: Participants will choose from three questions covering narrative essays, letters, and a specific topic on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
- Eligibility: The contest is open to students in upper primary and junior high levels (Grade 4 to Grade 9) in all basic schools.
The Selection Process
The competition will follow a structured multi-stage evaluation:
- Preliminary Stage: Entries will be reviewed by a panel of examiners and editors from Graphic Communications Group Ltd.
- Top 50 Selection: Examiners will shortlist the top 50 students whose essays meet the strict scoring requirements.
- In-House Contest: These 50 students will be invited to regional and national offices for a supervised, “on-the-spot” essay writing test.
- Final Verdict: Examiners will determine the top 10 finalists and the overall national winner from this group.
Publication and Awards
The success stories of the winner and the other nine finalists will be featured in the Junior Graphic. This will be followed by a formal winners’ ceremony in Accra to celebrate their achievements.
Schools, teachers, and parents are encouraged to look out for the official announcement on May 6 for full participation and submission guidelines. Stakeholders are challenged to support their students in participating to help learners sharpen their critical thinking and writing skills.
