2026 SHS Prospectus: Illegal Items You Cannot Take To School

It is important for all 2026 BECE graduates placed into Senior High Schools to know that there are illegal items that are not allowed in senior high schools. What this means is that you cannot send or take such things to school from 18th September, 2026.

When the 2026 Free SHS Prospectus is made available to public SHSs, certain items will be described as illegal. What this means is that students cannot take such items along to school for any reason.

What Are the Illegal Items You Cannot Take to School Per the 2026 SHS Prospectus?

The reality is that there are SHS illegal items you cannot take to school as a student in any Senior High School. Once they are found on you or in your possession, they will be confiscated. It is a serious offense as a student to carry along things that the school rules forbid you from bringing.

The Ghana Education Service (GES) forbids senior high school students from bringing them to school.
SHS 1 students who will start their secondary school education soon must take this seriously.

Emphatically, the free SHS policy does not cover the items in the list; hence, do not take them along to school.

Mufti—These are all kinds of unprescribed attires you wear at home that have not been included in the list of accepted clothing. Students cannot prescribe their own clothes for school as though they have every liberty to wear anything at all.

Jewelry such as bangles of any kind, chains, necklaces, rings, dangling earrings, and all manner of expensive items in this class are prohibited.

Other items that are considered unprescribed things for Senior High Students in Ghana include Sound systems and all electrical appliances not permitted in boarding schools (except for irons).

Again, mobile phones are still not permitted, just like iPods, Walkmans, and disc players. The list is endless and includes chargeable lamps, fans, television sets, laptops, etc.

• In addition, no student is supposed to have excessive cash/money. Parents are advised to give just enough pocket money.

The use of mobile phones and tablets is prohibited in senior high schools in Ghana. Students can, however, make use of the school’s ICT laboratory.

The main purpose of being in school is to acquire knowledge for your future career ambition. Having these prohibited items around you or with you in school will only distract you and affect your focus, among others. If you take such illegal items to school, they can be confiscated.

Parents are advised to educate their children on this and play their parental roles well to ensure that only approved items are given to learners.
