39th National Farmers’ Day to Be Held Indoor
The Deputy Minister of Food and Agriculture (MoFA), Yaw Frimpong Addo, who also serves as the Chairman of the 39th National Farmers’ Day Planning Committee, has revealed that this year’s celebration will be held indoors, in contrast to the customary outdoor Dunbar.
The day is observed on the first Friday of December. Prior to the main event, activities will include a five-day exhibition of agricultural products at the ministerial enclave dubbed ‘Agri Fest” from November 27 to December 1, 2023.
This year’s celebration takes place under the theme of “Delivering Smart Solutions for Sustainable Food Security and Resilience,” in Tarkwa, Western Region, on 1 December, 2023, with precursor activities at Agrifest Ghana 2023 in Accra from 27 November to 1 December.B
He stressed that even though the districts and regions would have the usual exhibition and awards, this year’s would not be an outdoor ceremony. “Not like the usual grand durbar on the outside, this year’s would be an indoor awards night at the University of Mines and Technology (UMaT), Tarkwa in the Western Region, where nominees would be invited to receive their awards”.
He, however, did not provide further details as to why this year’s celebrations will be held indoors.
Mr. Frempong Addo highlighted that there will be a special desk placed at a vantage point to explain in detail what phase two of the Planting for Food and Jobs (PFJ) seeks to achieve.
As part of the celebration, there would also be a float through the principal streets of Accra for awareness creation towards the celebration and a farmers’ market at the Independence Square where food items including rice, yam, cassava and poultry products, among others, would be transported and sold at affordable prices.
“Agribusinesses from all 16 regions would come on board to exhibit their agricultural products and show the world that Ghana is doing well in terms of food security,” he added.

He indicated that this year’s celebration is to appreciate farmers for the availability and accessibility of food despite the numerous challenges and also to remind stakeholders of the need to support hard-working farmers, who through hard work, have ensured food sustenance in the country.
The Deputy Minister appealed to corporate organizations and stakeholders to lend their support to this years celebration, stating that the ministry is prepared to accept donations of any kind.
