The 6th Quadrennial [53rd] National Delegates’ Conference of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) starts today 2nd January 2022 and ends on 9th January 2022.
The conference will be graced by the President of Ghana, H.E Nana Addo Adankwa Akufo-Addo, and His Royal Majesty Asante Hene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
The 8-Day National Delegates’ Conference which will be held at the Great Hall of KNUST is under the theme “Surviving as a reliable and vibrant teacher union in the 21st century.
GNAT remains the trailblazer of teacher unions and the oldest in the country. One key event that the chalk fraternity and the entire country will keep an eye on is the National Executives Elections of the GNAT which will be held during the delegates conference.
Prior to the conference, a group calling itself General Voting Advocates in GNAT started a move to solicit the support of members of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) for the constitution of the union to be amended to pave way for an all-inclusive voting regime which will give every member the right to vote.
The move although a populist one did not garner the numbers required during the petition signing phase. The current constitution gives only 4% of the over 250,000 members of GNAT the right to vote to elect national executives.
