The Minister of Education, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, has said that 95 out of every 100 JHS Students in the Northern region enter SHS.
The Education Ministry wants more kids in Northern Ghana to go to school. They found that out of every 100 kids who finish Junior High School in the North, 95 go to Senior High School. This is a big change and shows how education is making a difference in the area.
The Education Minister, Dr. Osei Adutwum, shared this news during a talk at the University of Media Arts and Communication. He said the Northern Region is leading in sending kids to high school, with other regions like North East, Savannah, Upper East, and Upper West following closely.
However, there’s a concern in the Volta Region because fewer kids are moving from junior to senior high school compared to before. Dr. Adutwum also pointed out that many kids from the Central Region aren’t getting into senior high schools, especially those who live there. He said most of the students in high-performing schools in the Central Region are from Accra, not the Central Region itself.
Dr. Adutwum thinks STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) and TVET (Technical and Vocational Education and Training) education are important for the country’s development. He also stressed the need for better communication to get people to support these kinds of education in Ghana.
