The National Security has intercepted 12 containers of fake US dollars and suspected gold bars hoarded in the container. The National Security took action following a tip-off. The officers of the National Security followed the tip and raided a warehouse located in Sapeiman, within the Ga South Municipality, where the illegal stash was uncovered.
Upon inspection, bundles of fake US dollars were found inside wooden boxes, which had been hidden within cement to avoid detection. Other items seized included counterfeit Ghana cedi notes, as well as fake Ghana Army uniforms and boots, raising further security concerns.
The operation, executed with precision, uncovered an enormous quantity of cash, including genuine US dollars and counterfeit Ghana cedi notes in 50 and 100 denominations. The illicit funds were stacked in wooden boxes, some barricaded with plywood and sealed with charcoal to evade detection.
Authorities have confirmed that two of the containers remain unaccounted for, with intensified efforts underway to locate them.
Meanwhile, a manhunt has been launched for four individuals, including a suspected ringleader identified only as Alhaji. National Security has assured.
Ghanaians are being called upon to help provide key relevant information to the National Security to help in their work and to get the suspects arrested.
