Restore discipline in Senior High Schools – Education Minister to GES

Haruna Iddrisu, the Minister for Education, has directed the Ghana Education Service (GES) to take swift measures to enforce discipline in senior high schools nationwide.
He has expressed worries about what he described as a disturbing decline in order in the country’s educational institutions.
The Minister stated that a recent shooting incident at the SDA Senior High School during a meeting with the school principals in Kumasi as notable example of the growing indiscipline in schools.
mentioning the occurrence, he noted that it “leaves much to be desired,” and called for urgent reforms.
Haruna Iddrisu also pointed out that the GES Director-General, Professor Ernest Kofi Davis, has complet support of the government to implement necessary reforms to curb violent behavior and instill discipline in schools.
The Minister of Education stated that “He has our full policy support to enforce those directives. So, the ‘unGhanaian’ development of shooting in Kumasi, the Director General of the GES has the full support of the government for you to strengthen your inspection in order that guns, knives, and other violent tools are not found in our schools.”
The relatives 16-year-old Suzi Adwoa Penamang—the SDA student who was shot by her colleague is making an urgent plea for financial support to prevent her from going blind as a result of her injuries.
