GES extends school selection deadline: A second chance for students

The Management of the Ghana Education Service (GES), has declared  an extension of the school selection period for the final-year Junior High School (JHS) students in Ghana. Wednesday, June 25, 2025, is now the new deadline for the selection process. This extension will give students an additional time to make knowledgeable selections about their senior high school education.

The decision to extend the deadline was due to the addition of private Senior High Schools (SHSs) in the selection process. This has given students additional time to consider their choices and make informed decisions.

The GES drew to attention that the existing guidelines and procedures for school selection stay the same. The GES encourages students to seek guidance from teachers, parents, and guardians to ensure that they make the best decisions for their future.

The Regional Directors of Education have been asked to make stakeholders of the Metro/Municipal/District Directors, aware of this updated deadline so that they disseminate the information to final-year JHS students through their respective Head teachers. Students are encouraged to take advantage of this period to review carefully and select their preferred schools.

A supplementary register of senior high school by the Ghana Education Service , including the newly added private institutions, has been added for reference. This significant development is to ensure that students have access to detailed information when making their selections.

The supplementary register will provides information about each school, including their academic programs, facilities, and admission requirements.
