The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has disclosed it has approved some 240 gold buying companies and issued them licences to operate in the country.
The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), Sammy Gyamfi, made this public following the expiration of the Board’s June 21, 2025, transition deadline.
Statistics on Ghana GoldBod approved licences
- The GoldBod chair indicated that more than 300 gold-buying companies applied for a licence.
- Out of those 300 applications, there were 200 Tier One buyer licence applicants.
- 30 applications for the Self-Financing Aggregator category were also received.
- The GoldBod has approved 240 licences.
Speaking at a press conference in Accra on Monday, June 30, Sammy Gyamfi noted that the approvals mark a critical step in enforcing the new gold licensing regime aimed at improving transparency, accountability, and regulatory compliance across the sector.
He stressed that going forward, only entities with valid GoldBod-issued licences will be allowed to engage in gold trading activities, adding that the Board will intensify enforcement to clamp down on unlicensed operations in line with the Ghana Gold Board Act, 2025 (Act 1140).
