2025 WASSCE Results: WAEC cancels 6,295 subject results and annuls all results of 653 candidates
The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has released the 2025 WASSCE results and announced the cancellation of 6,295 subject results and the complete annulment of the results of 653 candidates.
According to the Council, the affected students were found with foreign materials, including prepared notes, textbooks, and printed documents, during the examinations. These actions, WAEC explained, were necessary to safeguard the integrity of the assessment.
WAEC also noted that it has not yet concluded investigations into 908 subject results and the full results of an additional 158 candidates. These results have been withheld until the ongoing inquiries are completed.
Students whose results have been cancelled or withheld, as well as those who failed core subjects despite having their full results released, will be unable to progress to the tertiary level for now.
(1) Cancellation of Subject Results of 6,295 candidates for bringing foreign material like prepared notes, textbooks, and printed material into the examination halls;
(2) Cancellation of Entire Results of 653 candidates for possession of mobile phones in the examination halls;
(3) Withholding of Subject Results of 908 and the Entire Results of 158 candidates for various suspected offences.
Those with cancelled results are ineligible to apply for admission, while candidates with withheld results must wait for the outcome of WAEC’s investigations. If their results are eventually cleared, they may proceed with university applications, although this will depend on the timing of the release.

WAEC’s decisive actions serve as a strong deterrent to students who may consider engaging in examination malpractice. Nevertheless, some candidates with withheld results may be victims of circumstance. WAEC added that, it had withheld the results of some 185 schools for alleged mass collusion during the examination.
Yet still, some subject results of candidates from 185 schools have been withheld for alleged collusion. These cases are still under investigation. We are working around the clock to ensure that the withheld results of these candidates are published before the end of December, 2025 depending on the outcome of investigations.
In addition, a total of 35 persons, 19 of whom are teachers, were found to have engaged in acts that compromised the integrity of the examination. So far 19 of them have been arraigned before court and have been convicted to fines or terms of imprisonment. The remaining 16 are yet to be presented before the courts by the police. Beyond what the courts may decide, the list of teachers will be presented to the Director General of the Ghana Education Service for further disciplinary action.

These students under investigation as well as schools with witheld results will need to demonstrate to WAEC that they did not participate in any form of irregularity in order to have their results released. In cases where an entire school’s results for a specific subject are withheld, WAEC will release the results of students proven not to have engaged in malpractice once investigations are completed.
