The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) Ghana National Office has officially released the provisional results for the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for School Candidates. This blog post breaks down the key performance statistics, details the examination irregularities recorded, and shares vital cautions issued by WAEC.
2025 WASSCE Performance at a Glance
A total of 461,736 candidates registered for the examination from 1,021 schools, representing a 0.24% increase over the 2024 entry figure. Out of the registered candidates, 5,821 (1.26%) were absent from the examination.
The provisional results for the four Core Subjects—English Language, Core Mathematics, Integrated Science, and Social Studies—show a mixed performance trend compared to previous years.

Trend Analysis: Four-Year Performance (2022–2025)
The performance in the coveted A1–C6 range reveals significant year-on-year fluctuations, particularly in Mathematics:
English Language: Performance has remained relatively strong, recording 69.00% in 2025.
Mathematics (Core): There has been a notable dip in performance, falling from 66.86% in 2024 to 48.73% in 2025. This marks the lowest pass rate in the four-year period.
Integrated Science: The pass rate of 57.74% is lower than the last two years (66.82% in 2023, 58.77% in 2024).
Social Studies: Performance has seen a continuous decline from a high of 76.76% in 2023 to 55.82% in 2025.
Examination Irregularities and Sanctions
WAEC’s thorough investigation into reported cases of irregularity has led to decisive actions against candidates and officials involved, affirming the Council’s commitment to the integrity of the examination.
The Ghana Examinations Committee approved the following sanctions at its 40th Meeting:
Cancellation of Subject Results (6,295 candidates): For bringing foreign materials (notes, textbooks, etc.) into the examination halls.
Cancellation of Entire Results (653 candidates): For possession of mobile phones in the examination halls.
Withholding of Results (1,066 candidates): Subject results for 908 candidates and entire results for 158 candidates have been withheld due to various suspected offenses.
Furthermore, subject results of candidates from 185 schools are currently being withheld for alleged collusion, pending the outcome of investigations. WAEC is working to ensure the final results of these candidates are published before the end of December 2025.
Action Against Teachers
A total of 35 teachers were found to have been involved in compromising the integrity of the examination.
19 teachers have been arraigned before a court and convicted, receiving fines or terms of imprisonment.
The remaining 16 cases are yet to be presented before the courts.
The full list of all 35 teachers will be presented to the Director General of the Ghana Education Service for further disciplinary action.
WAEC Caution: Beware of Fraudsters!
The Council has issued a strong warning to all stakeholders, especially candidates, to be wary of fraudsters who promise to upgrade results for a fee.
Candidates should note that WAEC results are secured and can only be authenticated using its official results verification system.

Do not fall victim to scams! Only rely on official WAEC channels for result checking and updates.
