Black Damsels Win African Schools Soccer Tournament After Dramatic Shootout

Ghana’s U15 girls’ team has been crowned Africa champions at the CAF African Schools Football Championship. They went into the finals as defending champions and did not disappoint. 

As defending champions, they lived up to the billing and retained their title in a dramatic penalty shootout victory over Burkina Faso.

In the last group stage match, Ghana’s U15 girls’ team lost by a goal to nil to Burkina Faso, but in the finals, they redeemed themselves and clinched the most important victory of the tournament.

The Black Damsels, by winning this competition, have been crowned champions of the CAF African Schools Football Championship for the second consecutive time.

At the end of regular encounters in the finals, it remained goalless, and none of the teams were potent enough to break through the defensive walls and strategies of each other.

The penalty kicks went the full length of time expected, with each team taking 10 penalty kicks before Ghana secured the win with a 10-9 margin. The sudden death stage was even tense, with the teams and their cheering fans present at the match on tenterhooks.

This win makes it a record. back-to-back titles for the Black Damsels, underlining their dominance and consistency at the continental school-level football competition introduced by CAF to unearth talent in female football across the continent.

The success of the Black Damsels at the 2025 and 2026 championships as winners shows that female football in Ghana has a promising future.
The Ghana supporters’ unions and the Ghana Football Association, as well as the team and managers, will be giving the team a fire-packed welcome when they touch down at the Accra International Airport in the coming days.
