The National Teaching Council (NTC) Tuesday ended a stakeholder engagement on teacher licensure exams reform that will improve the conduct of the national assessment examination for graduate teachers in the country.
NTC in a post sighted by EducationWeb.com.gh said the meeting was attended by principals of Colleges of Education, Vice Chancellors of Universities of Education and representative of teacher unions and student unions.
The just ended engagement comes after the Registrar of Council last year said his outfit as part of efforts to ensure all teachers are licensed this academic year will roll out new reforms to improve the conduct of teacher licensure tests.
Dr Christian Addai Poku in 2021 announced the National Teaching Council (NTC) in the 2022 academic year will introduce subject-based tests and computer-based tests (CBT) to examine the proficiency of teachers.
“The reforms will include the introduction of the subject and computer-based testing which will examine the proficiency of teachers in their areas of specialization as we do away with paper and pen testing,” Mr Addai stated.
He also said NTC in the next academic year intend to strengthen cooperation between us and teachers, particularly, through their unions to ensure that we get the best of deals for teachers and to raise standards of our profession.
“NTC intend to work more closely with teacher education institutions as we move into full gear on our regulatory functions at the initial teacher preparation level in terms of accreditation and curriculum development for teacher education institutions.

We want to see our profession populated with teachers who are imbued with high professional standards and ready to deliver the highest quality education to improve learning outcomes,” the Teaching Council Registrar said last year.
