Education Minister gives date to launch teacher welfare portal

The Minister for Education, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum says the Ministry of Education (MoE) in the first week of March this year will launch a teacher welfare portal to receive concerns submitted by public school teachers for redress.

Speaking on PeaceFM’s Kokrokoo show monitored by EducationWeb, the Education Minister said his outfit is tirelessly working on the soon to launch website to ensure submitted complaints to the Ministry are addressed directly.

“The website is almost ready, that is teacher welfare portal for anybody with a problem related to teaching to submit concerns for the Ministry of Education and Ghana Education Service (GES) to address them,” he told PeaceFM.

The Member of Parliament for Bosomtwe Constituency said his outfit after the launch of the teach welfare portal will assign case managers who will handle the reported or submitted issues to make sure that the cases are resolved.

“When the problems are resolved, there will be a dashboard for me to know that there was for instance a reduction of 20,000 complaints from Ashanti or other regions,” Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum told the Accra-based radio station.

The welfare portal to be launched in the first week of March the Minister in charge of Education, Mr Osei Yaw said will help the Education Ministry remove the impediments of teachers and improve their welfare issues to do their job well.

The Teaching Minister indicated that the Akufo-Addo led government is committed to making the teaching profession in the country attractive by providing teachers with the necessary tools needed for effective academic activities.

Asked what measures have been put in place to address the concerns of the striking members of the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG), he said his outfit is still in talk with the teachers to end the industrial action.

He told the host of Kokrokoo show Kwame Sefa Kayi the Education Ministry and leadership of the University Teachers Association of Ghana Tuesday will meet to discuss possible ways for the worrying strike action to be called off.
