Breaking News on the Education Front: GES postpones ONLINE Teachers Training Indefinitely
The Ghana Education Service has succumbed to the pressure mounted on it by the various teacher unions and other stakeholders leading to the indefinite postponement of the Online ICT Training for Teachers of the service.
In a letter addressed to all Regional Directors, the GES management informed the chalk fraternity that the online ICT training in connection with the One Teacher One Laptop initiative scheduled for 16th February 20211 has been put on hold.
It added that KA Technologies, Microsoft, and the Ghana Education Service would engage in further discussions and deliberations to see the way forward.

A new date and timeline will be communicated later, the letter stated.
Prior to this announcement by the GES, GNAT, and ATAG have questioned the reasons behind training and challenged the GES to follow the agreement entered into with the teacher unions on behalf of teachers which required that the training be organized in person and not online. ATAG called on teachers to boycott the online training

According to the proposal binding teacher unions (representing teachers) and GES, the ICT training will attract a fee of GHS300.00. The Ghs300.00 cost will cover technical training in the application of ICT devices in teaching per person for one month estimated at GHS105 million.”
The union stated that it found it strange for the GES to turn around to tell all teachers that GHS300.00 meant for technical training will be virtual training instead of an in-person training.
ATAG quizzed the GES to explain where the technical support will come from and called on the managers of education at the pre-tertiary level to explain the kind of technical support they were referring to in the proposal.
Now that the GES has postponed the ONLINE ICT Training for Teachers indefinitely, teachers, teacher unions, and other stakeholders would expect the GES to do due diligence before coming out with a new road map.
