Attempts by school owners to seize Private School Teachers Temporary NTC Licence wrong – NCOPST
The National Council of Private School teachers (NCOPST) has kicked against attempts and illegal tactics by school owners to confiscate Temporal licence issued by the NTC to private school teachers.
The National Council for Private School Teachers (NCOPST) perceives a calculated attempt by the Ghana National Association of Private Schools (GNAPS) to hold hostage the temporal teacher licence to be issued to private school teachers by the NTC. The GNAPS is an association of private school owners, whiles NCOPST is the teachers’ version of the council in the private schools space at the pre-tertiary education level.
In a press release copied to Ghanaeducation.org, the (NCOPST) indicated that it had sighted a press release by the(GNAPS) which indicated that the temporal licence for teachers will be issued to schools so that in the event that a teacher leaves the school, he or she will forfeit the licence.
In the rejoinder on the Non-professional Provisional Licence, the National Council for Private School Teachers (NCOPST) stated that, the plans of the GNAPS to seize the temporary licence issued to private school teachers who decide to stop offering their services as unacceptable, misleading, preposterous and illegal as the decision is contrary to new education act.
“Our Position on the matter”
“We, in the National Council of Private School Teachers (NCOPST), find this statement unacceptable, misleading and preposterous; a misinformation which will not inure to the benefit of Private School Teachers in Ghana. Again, the statement is illegal since it contradicts the dictates of the New Education Act (Ac 1023)” The statement said.
The council further added that it foresees private school employers/owners being guided by their selfish interests working against the welfare and wellbeing of their employees (teachers).
It indicated that it was going to do everything within its powers and the law to ensure this plan by school owners does not succeed against private school teachers, who have suffered for far too long.
“We see a hidden agenda being imposed on private school teachers by our employers for their selfish gains against the will and welfare of the teachers”
“We are against this unfortunate directive by our employers and therefore, state categorically, without equivocation that we will oppose it with our last breath at any time anywhere” the statement indicated.
The council further indicated that it was certain there are deliberate attempts to take advantage of private school teachers without the knowledge of the NTC and that the plans by the move by the Ghana National Association of Private Schools (GNAPS) were not tabled at the last stakeholders’ meeting held with the NTC.
