New GES Boss Appointed By Akufo Addo
Deputy Ranking Member on the Education Committee, Dr. Clement Apaak, said at a news conference that the teacher unions are right to be against the appointment.
He said that the Minority is against Dr. Nkansah’s appointment, not because he is a bad person, but because he has a background in banking.
“Before he was hired, he had never taught full-time or even part-time. He was a banker by trade and was sent to the Minister’s office in 2021 as one of his top assistants, so it was clear that the teacher unions had a problem.
“Where you take a man who “rose through the ranks, is a professional, and earned his due,” and replace him with someone who “rose through the ranks, is a professional, and earned his due,” but in a different field. That is why the teacher unions are against this appointment,” he said.
“It also hurts morale when you bring someone who doesn’t have the right background or doesn’t meet their standards,” he said.
He also said that the president’s claims that Professor Opoku Amankwah, the former GES D-G, was fired because his skills were no longer needed are false.
He explained that Professor Amankwah was fired because he and Education Minister Dr. Yaw Adutwum had a cold relationship. He used the GALOP project as an example.
“When I saw the content from the presidency and the reason given for shortening the extended appointment, I was a little surprised. Anyone who has followed the Education sector and its problems would find it hard to admit that the only real reason is the cold relationship between Prof. Amankwah and Dr. Adutwum.”
