Prioritize GES employees welfare – MoE to new GES Director

The Minister for Education, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum has charged the newly appointed Director-General of the Ghana Education Service, Eric Nkansah to prioritize the welfare of GES employees to improve education outcomes in the country.

The Education Minister’s comment comes after the Acting Ghana Education Service Director on Monday, October 24, 2022, paid a working visit to him at his office at the Ministry of Education (MoE) in Accra.

Reacting to Adutwum’s appeal, Dr Nkansah pledged his willingness to work with all stakeholders to prioritize teacher welfare while implementing relevant pre-tertiary educational policies to ensure children have access to quality education.

Profile of Dr Eric Nkansah

41-year-old Nkansah joined the Ministry of Education (MoE) in April 2021 on secondment from the Kumasi Technical University (KTU), where I served as Senior Lecturer at the Department of Banking Technology and Finance,

Since he joined Kumasi Technical University in September 2012 (then Kumasi Polytechnic), I have contributed heavily to teaching, research, programme development and community service to the development of the university.

Eric also worked as the Executive Director of Career Spring Institute, a private consulting firm licensed to provide training for members and potential members of local and international professional programmes and specialised training for small, medium, and large corporations.

Groomed through the basic up to advanced banking operations, Nkansah was the sales manager of the Krofrom Branch of Barclays Bank of Ghana (now Absa) for over six years with the then Barclays Bank of Ghana.

While working for Barclays Bank of Ghana, the newly appointed Director-General of the Ghana Education Service was also lecturing at the Banking and Finance Department of Garden City University College on a part-time basis.

Subsequently, he became a part-time Lecturer at the KNUST Institute of Distance Learning (IDL) and Business School. Mr Eric has also facilitated a good number of training programmes in building the capacity of bankers in Ghana.

He holds a PhD in Financial Economics from the University of Zululand, South Africa, a Master of Business Administration (Finance) from KNUST Business School, Ghana, and B. A (Hons) Economics from the University of Cape Coast, Ghana.

He has published widely in peer-reviewed academic journals. He is a member of the Chartered Institute of Bankers (ACIB), Ghana.

He is married and blessed with three lovely boys. Dr Nkansah is passionate about educating and developing people. He believes increasing access to education is the fastest way to transform our country.
