Hon. Ablakwa Replaces all Blackboards with Makerboards in North Tongu Schools

Hon. Sam Okudzeto Ablakwa, Member of Parliament, North Tongu has commenced an initiative to replace all blackboards in public schools with marker boards.

In a post, sighted by Ghana Education News, disclosed that the Phase of the initiative will cover all JHS & SHS in the North Tongu Constituency. The first phase of the Replaced Blackboards with Marker boards is expected to be completed by November end.

The second phase of the project according to Hon. Ablakwa will kick-start later and will cover all basic schools (Preschool to Basic 6). The MP added that the move is part of efforts to provide a safer learning environment for teachers and learners by eradicating the use of chalk and its associated health problems.

Essential logistics such as markers and dusters were also added to ensure the continued usefulness of the Marker boards in North Tongu Schools that benefited.

“Today, we commenced a new initiative to replace all blackboards in public schools with marker boards. Phase 1 covers all JHS & SHS to be completed next month. Phase 2 targets all basic schools. Teachers & learners deserve improved, healthier conditions even as locals get more jobs. If I may add, we also have a sustainable strategy for the supply of markers and related logistics. ” He stated in his Tweet.

It is common knowledge that the dust from blackboards has health implications and their replacement in schools will lead to less expense and the treatment of RTIs that come with inhalation of the dust.

The gesture has been applauded by many and the replacement of the Blackboards is a piece of welcome news in the schools. Teachers and students of the schools that have benefitted could not hide their joy in getting the Whiteboards and the needed logistics.
