Teachers Professional Development Allowance of GH¢354m paid

A total of GH¢354 million for the payment of teachers Continuous Professional Development Allowance (CPDA) has been released by the government of Ghana to be paid to teachers under the Ghana Education Service (GES).

In all, a total of 301,617 professional teachers and non-professional teachers who qualify for the allowances are set to be paid next week.

Out of the number, 92.7 percent are professional teachers whiles the others, 7.3 percent, are non-professional teachers.

Thus, 279,546 will receive GHc1200 whiles 22,071 are to be paid GHc800 per annum every December.

This was disclosed in Accra on 25th November 2020 by The Director-General of the GES, Prof. Kwasi Opoku-Amankwa.

He made the revelation during the inauguration of the maiden Governing Council of the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC).

He reiterated that the allowance was to assist teachers in their professionalization efforts. The Director-General of the GES furthered that the Continuous Professional Development Allowance (CPDA)  was an initiative of government that seeks to put the teacher first.

The Teachers Professional Development Allowance suffered a setback when it was wrongly taxed however, the GES and the Fair wages have taken steps to ensure the full amount is credited to deserving teachers as agreed on between the teacher unions and other stakeholders.
