The management of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) as it prepares to release the 2022 WASSCE and BECE results has cautioned the public and students who sat for the examinations to be wary of result upgrade.
In a blog post sighted by AcademicWeek, WAEC said its attention has been drawn to the activities of some unscrupulous individuals who claim to have access to its database and can change the results of prospective students.
“The management of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) wishes to alert its public to the activities of certain persons who introduce themselves as workers of WAEC and also claim to have access to its results database
These fraudsters contact prospective candidates with the promise of upgrading their results for a fee payable through mobile money transfers. We urge the public and students to desist from that” the Council stated in the blog post.
In a discussion with AcademicWeek’s Editorial Staff, an official of the Council said his outfit has collaborated with security agencies to arrest the fraudsters who take advantage of students during the release of WAEC results.
“We will urge members of the public to report the activities of these fraudsters to the police or the nearest WAEC Office, There is nothing like result upgrade any person found culpable will be dealt with accordingly,” he urged.
The WAEC staff indicated that the Council’s results database is well-secured with military-grade encryption. As such, all forged WAEC examination results can be detected by its state-of-the-art confirmation/verification system.
“Institutions and organisations are advised to confirm or verify results presented to them directly from the Council or access the confirmation/verification service online at https://www.waecgh.org,” the official told AcademicWeek.com.

For the avoidance of doubt, he said students, stakeholders and the general public are to check this year’s BECE and WASSCE results only at the official results checking portal of WAEC at https://www.ghana.waecdirect.org.
