The 2022 academic year ends today across the country as Public Basic Schools vacate today, 16th December 2022.
The vacation day for public schools was postponed by a day by the Ghana Education Service (GES) to allow Basic four learners write their National Standardised Test on Friday 16th December, 2022.
Acc0rding to the 2023 academic year calendar released by the GES, basic schools will reopen for the first term of the 2023 academic year on 10th January 2023.
The 2023 Academic calendar released for Nursery/KG/Basic 1-9/JHS will be a trimester academic year and is expected to end on 28th September 2023.
This will be the first time since 2019 that schools are vacating in September. The new timetable is part of efforts to ensure that, schools revert to the standard academic calendar by 2024.

Term 1 reopening date is 10th Jan, 2023 – Schools will be in section for 12 weeks
Term 2 reopening date is 10th April 2023 – Schools will be in section for 12 weeks
Term 3 reopening date is 10th July, 2023 – Schools will be in section for 12 weeks

When school reopens, nearly all learners will be promoted to new classes.

Parents are advised to ensure the safety of their wards during the festive season. It will be helpful for teachers to counsel learners, provide safety tips for their pupils who will be celebrating their Yuletide.
