Reasons Why Phones Are Turned Off or Put On Flight Mode During Flights

Have you ever wondered why we turn off phones, tablets, and other digital items when we are on an aeroplane? Flight attendants do make sure that all passengers have either turned off their phones or have put them on flight mode before the plane takes off.

In some cases, your phone may be on, but the attendant will advise all passengers to use the aeroplane’s WiFi for their internet activities. Most modern planes sometimes allow passengers to use their phones as best as they can without turning them off or putting them on flight mode.

The reason is to protect the plane against radio interference from cell phone networks on the ground.” Meaning at 40,000 feet in the air, active cell phones would be picking up service from multiple cell towers on the ground.

Not all phones affect or interrupt the plane’s signals. However, since some do, it is generally advisable to let the phone be on flight mode during flight hours.
