The Ghana Education Service (GES) has announced a new date for the postponed 2022 Teacher Promotion Aptitude Test.
Per the letter issued by the GES, the postponed 2022 Teacher Promotion test will be held in February on the 28th and 1st of March 2023.
All shortlisted and eligible teachers who are preparing for the Teacher Promotion test for promotion to the ranks of Principal Superintendent, Assistant Director II, Assistant Director I, and Deputy Director are to take note of the new date.
The GES also disclosed that the Index numbers of those who registered for the examination will be released in the coming weeks.
The 2022 Teacher Promotion Examination was suspended following a court case brought against the GES by some 256 teachers who sat the 2021 examination in the same exam centre and were all failed. Efforts by the plaintiffs to have access to their marked scripts through the lawyer failed, as the GES could not make the scores available. Subsequently, the court order prevented the GES from carrying out the December 2022 examination until the case was resolved. The injunction led to the remaking of the scripts of the said teachers, and the outcome showed that at least 230 of the 256 teachers passed the examination.
The landmark case which has become an important precedent is expected to be a good lesson for the GES to ensure due diligence is done in the subsequent examination, as teachers who are not convinced by the results released may use the court to cross-check facts should the need be.
