Covid: Gov’t extends free electricity, water initiative to June
The Nana Akufo-Addo led government has extended the free electricity and water initiative which was expected to end March 31, 2021, to June 2021, the Majority leader in Parliament, Hon Kyei Mensah Bonsu announced Friday.
The caretaker Finance Minister, Hon Kyei Mensah Bonsu stated this reading the 2021 budget in Parliament on Friday, March 12, 2021, monitored by Educationweb.com.gh.
The relief package which last expired in late December last year was extended to the end of March by His Excellency Akufo-Addo in his 21st televised nation’s address.
“The government will, thus, continue to pay the electricity bills for our nation’s one million active lifeline customers for the next three months, i.e. January, February and March 2021,” the President stated in his address.
He noted that customers of the Ghana Water Company, whose consumption is not more than five cubic metres a month will not pay any bills for the next 3 months (January, February and March) this year.
“All one million, five hundred thousand customers of the Ghana Water Company, whose consumption is not more than five cubic metres a month, will not pay any bills for the next three months, i.e. for the months of January, February and March”, Nana Akufo-Addo announced.

The Commander in Chief of the Ghana Armed Forces further said his administration at the end of March 2021 will review the relief package, hence the extension of the free electricity, water initiative to June 2021.
