Let’s Build A Statue For Christian Atsu To Honour Him – Kojo Yankah Tells Government

Chairman of the Board of Directors of Media General, Hon Kojo Yankah has made a plea to the Akufo Addo-led government to honour the Late Christian Atsu with a statue in his hometown.
In a Facebook Post sighted by ghanaeducation.org, Kojo Yankah revealed that it will be best if the stadium in Christian Atsu’s hometown district is renovated with ultra modern qualities and thereafter, named after him. He continued and revealed that a statue of Christian Atsu must also be built in front of the stadium as a way of honouring him.
“Let’s honour Christian Atsu; Upgrade his home district stadium and name it after him. With a statue. An idea” he said.
The 31-year-old was pronounced dead by his current club Hatayspor on Saturday, February 18, 2023, confirming that the player was found lifeless after the tragic earthquake that struck Turkey on February 6, 2023.
The mortal remains of Christian Atsu was returned to Ghana on Sunday, 19th February, 2023 in a Turkish Airlines.
Several Ghanaians were present at the airport to support the family as a short ceremony was conducted at the airport. The Vice president of Ghana, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia was present, ministers and other officials of the GFA were all present.
The first sight of Atsu’s coffin showed six soldiers carrying the remains draped in the national colours of red, gold, green with the Black Star.
They marched from the plan and placed the coffin on a holder, following which prayers were said by two priests and an Imam.
Speeches were subsequently delivered by the head of the Tswasam family, the GFA’s Secretary General, Prosper Harrison-Addo and the Vice President.
According to reports, the body after being formally received was taken to the 37 Military Hospital.
The family is in full attendance as there are football fans in their numbers. Heavy security were present at the airport.
